ADRA points race #9 was held on June 11th at Speedworld Dragstrip.  Race #9 was the last race before the summer break of 2010.  ADRA would like to thank all of their contingency sponsors and Race #9 main sponsors: D.L. Withers Construction and an anonymous ADRA member/racer. 

The Pro category points battle has been so tight that anyone in any of the top six positions could take over the lead.  Ray Bondy has held the number one spot since race #6 and went into the semis while second place Rich Lash went out in round two.  Richard Church, who held third place, went out in round one. 

The driver in the number four spot was Gene Fleetwood.  Gene went all the way when he dialed his John Deer Green Chevy II to a 10.53 and ran a 10.575 at 124.17 for the win in Pro.  Robbie Grangrade was runner-up when he turned on the red light by -.048 at the start.

The Super Pro category was a break out win for Mike Zimmerman when Tim Nickols, driving Rick Proctor’s 1956 Chevy, went under his 10.74 dial by only three ten-thousandths of a second with a 10.7397 at 133.49 MPH.  Zimmerman won the race by inches when he dialed a 7.68 and ran a 7.685 at 176.06 MPH after his .019 reaction time.  For his second win of the day, Mike Zimmerman won the Affordable Powder Coating’s “One Shot” in Super Pro.  Mike dialed a 7.69 and then ran a 7.692.  Dan Olszewski dialed a 10.36 and ran a 10.367 for the Affordable Powder Coating “One Shot” win in Pro.

Cindy Claflin-Debrooke RAN Realty sponsors the bounty every ADRA points race.  The bounty for Super Pro was on Matt Bong.  Chris Munson took the money from Matt in the first round.  Rich Lash held on to his money for only one more round when Ray Bondy took it away in round two in Pro.  John Schurr had a great .013 reaction time in elimination to win the Morrison Auto Machine “Best Reaction Time”, but lost the round in Super Pro.  The Pro “Best Reaction Time “ went to Gene Fleetwood with a .003.

Mike Zimmerman picked up his third win by taking the Magoo Automotive “Best Package”.  Mike had a .0171 package just barely beating Steve Akey’s .0172 for Super Pro.  Gene Fleetwood was almost perfect when he dialed a 10.55 and ran a 10.550 with a .003 reaction time for a three thousandths package in the Pro category.  The Specialty Automotive “BART” award for Super Pro went to Sharyl Gill with a .012 average while Paul Sanders had a .035 to win the “BART” in Pro. 

Mike Zimmerman’s fourth win of the day was the Sonoco Race Fuels product certificate.  Joe Guerin had a .400 reaction time to grab the Diane Dyer sponsored Starbuck’s “Wake-up Award.  Congratulations to Mike Zimmerman in Super Pro and Gene Fleetwood in Pro for the win and the Zimmerman Racing Engines $100 in house certificates.  Tim Nickels in Super Pro and Rob Grangrade in Pro received the $50 in house labor from Zimmerman Racing Engines for the runner-up spots.  There was no winner for “Who Got the Light”.

The thermometer hovered at and above the century mark to start the ADRA Points Race #8 at Speedworld Dragstrip in Wittmann, Arizona.  The competition was as hot as the temperatures and to add to the excitement, Race #8 presented as many position changes as previous races.  Matt Bong, in Super Pro became the first three time race winner of the 2010 season.  He dialed the orange and black Maverick to a 10.89 and then had a .063 light and ran a 10.916 at 123.76 MPH for the win.  Chris Munson, winner of Race #4, drove the T-Bird to the runner-up spot when he dialed a 9.36 with a .1363 reaction time and then ran a 9.387 at 144.65 MPH. 

The Pro category saw a first time 2010 race winner when Kim Zimmerman dialed her 1970 Dodge Dart to an 11.37.  She had a .057 light and then ran a close 11.384 at 114.16 MPH.  Gene Fleetwood took the ’63 shoe box Nova into the number two spot when he dialed a 10.50 but was a little late with a .181 reaction time and ran a 10.528 at 125.66 MPH. 

The Speedworld Trophy was also decided at the starting line when Bob Aitken topped Ray VanRiper with a .055 light to Ray’s .214.  Affordable Powder Coating's sponsored “One Shot” money was handed out to two first time 2010 winners.  Sharyl Gill took Super Pro when she dialed a 9.62 and ran a 9.621.  Rich Lash took Pro when he ran a 12.782 on the 12.78 dial.

The Bounty sponsored by Cindy Clafin-DeBrocke RAN Realty was placed on Matt Gallegos in Super Pro and Jay Thompson in Pro.  Jay lost out to Scott Hess in round #1 and Matt Bong took the Bounty in round #2 in Super Pro.  The Best Reaction Time in Elimination sponsored by Morrison Auto Machine went to Matt Bong in Super Pro and with an almost perfect .0006 and Scott Hess with an equally impressive .0009. 

Magoos Automotive’s Best Package in Super Pro was awarded to Sharyl Gill when she dialed a 9.60 and ran a 9.604 with a .004 reaction time.  ADRA president, Jack Dyer grabbed the Pro Best Package with a .019 light.  Jack ran an 11.539 on his 11.53 dial.  Sharyl Gill picked up her fourth check of the day when she won the “BART” sponsored by Specialty Automotive.  Sharyl’s average was a super .024 in Super Pro while Richard Church had a great .029 average for the "BART" in Pro.

The first winner of ADRA's newest contingency award sponsored by an anonymous racer was Scott Hess.  The “Who Got the Light” award, for the first racer in either category with a perfect .000 light,  could have been won by Matt Bong as well, but Scott had a .0009 in round #1 while Matt didn’t get his .0006 light until round #3.  The Starbuck’s “Wake-up” certificate sponsored by Diane Dyer went to Don Butler with a .393 reaction time.  Bill Oxford bought the winning 50/50 ticket.  Matt Bong in Super Pro and Kim Zimmerman in Pro received the $100 in-house labor certificates from Zimmerman Racing Engines while Chris Munson in Super Pro and Gene Fleetwood in Pro were awarded the $50 in-house labor certificates for the runner-up spots.  Kim also received the Sonoco Race Fuels prize worth $100 in Sonoco products for being the Pro winner and running Sonoco Fuel.

The next ADRA points race will be June 11th at Speedworld with a 6 PM gate.

The Arizona Drag Racing Association continued to grow with Race #7 being no exception.  A very large car count and the addition of another sponsor made the evening great fun.  The Pro category, for the second time in as many races, produced a first time ADRA winner.  Rich Lash drove his silver Nova to victory over Ray Bondy’s “Natural Creation” Camaro.  John Schurr took top honors over Sharyl Gill in Super Pro.   Rich and John received $100 in-house labor from Zimmerman Racing Engines while Ray and Sharyl received $50 of in-house labor.

Affordable Powder Coatings “One Shot” had two first time winners when Phil Dion dialed a 9.43 and ran an almost right on 9.431 for Super Pro.  Steve Kingel dialed an 11.78 and was only three thousandths off with an 11.783 for the Pro win.  Mike Zimmerman in Super Pro and Sam Ehret in Pro hung on to the "Bounty" cash sponsored by Cindy Claflin-Debrocke Century 21 Ran Realty until the third round when John Schurr in Super Pro and Rich Lash in Pro took them out. 

Sharyl Gill in Super Pro and Paul Sanders in Pro grabbed the Morrison Auto Machine Best Reaction Time in Eliminations.  Sharyl had a great .003 while Paul had a .013.  Magoo’s Automotive Best Package for Super Pro went to Mike Zimmerman.  Mike had a .009 light and then ran an 8.940 on his 8.94 dial for his second contingency win of the day.  Rich Lash dialed a 12.75 and ran a 12.756 after his .018 reaction time for Magoo’s Best Package in Pro.  Mike Zimmerman also picked up the BART award sponsored by Specialty Automotive in Super Pro with an outstanding .007 average while Wild Bill Carlson rode his Harley Davidson to a .017 average in Pro. 

Jeff Bierl in his tow vehicle received the Diane Dyer sponsored Starbuck Wake-Up award.  Chris Munson driving the Chevy powered T-Bird picked up the Sunoco Race Fuels random draw while Jack Dyer was the lucky 50/50 winner. 

The newest sponsor to the ADRA family is an anonymous racer with a “Who Got the Light” award.  The first racer in either category to have a perfect light (.000) in eliminations will receive the cash prize if there is no winner the money will roll to the next ADRA race and the sponsor will add to the prize.

The next ADRA race is points race #8 at Speedworld on June 4th with gates at 6 PM.

The midway point in the ADRA points chase took place at Speedworld Dragstrip on April 30, 2010. Marc O'Campo Sr. made it through the tough Pro field to top Kim Zimmerman for his first ever Pro final win. Marc dialed his '68 Mustang to an 11.45 with a .066 light and ran an 11.427 at 114.83 MPH. Kim left about four hundredths at the starting line and then broke out by almost three hundredths trying to catch up. She dialed an 11.35 and ran an 11.321 at 116.40 MPH.

Matt Bong won his second Super Pro race of the 2010 season when Kody Robinson broke out by about three hundredths. Matt dialed the orange Maverick to a 10.95 and had a slower .029 reaction time and ran an 11.002 at 120.77 MPH. Kody dialed his Arizona Bug Company '27 Ford Roadster to a 9.54 and had a great .008 light, but ran a 9.515 at 132.16 MPH for the runner-up spot. Thanks were expressed to Zimmerman Racing Engines for the added in-house labor for both winners and runners-up in Pro and Super Pro. Matt also added the Torco Race Fuels gift certificate from Rip-N-Success Race Fuels to his evenings winnings.
The Speedworld trophy race was a hole-shot victory for John Nahodil when he dialed a 14.70 and ran a 15.189 at 65.81 MPH after a .041 light. Nola Lytle, the runner-up, dialed a 14.08 and ran a 14.095 at 96.46 MPH with a late .767 reaction time.

John Schurr, for the third time in the 2010 season, received the Affordable Powder Coatings sponsored "One Shot" money for Super Pro when he dialed a 10.73 and ran a 10.736. Ray Bondy dialed a 12.48 and ran a 12.481 for the Pro "One Shot" cash.

Larry Spitali in Super Pro and Vic Sibilla in Pro each won the bounty money sponsored by Cindy Claflin-DeBrocke of Century 21 Ran Realty.

Jim Wade in Super Pro and Pro points leader Richard Church took the Morrison Auto Machine "Best Reaction Time in Elimination". Wade took the money with a .006 and Church won with an almost perfect .001.

Ray Bondy added two more Pro contingency awards when he dialed a 12.47 and ran a 12.485 with a .001 light for the Magoo's Automotive "Best Package in Eliminations" as well as the Specialty Automotive "Best Average Reaction Time During Qualifying" with a .012 for all three passes.

Larry Spitali's second contingency prize for the day was the Magoo's Automotive Super Pro "Best Package in Eliminations" when he had a .007 light and ran a 9.701 on the 9.69 dial.

Steve Akey won the BART for Super Pro with a .018 average.

Ed Young's .401 reaction time in qualifying got him the Diane Dyer sponsored Starbuck's "Wake-up" certificate.

Congratulations to Larry Pittinger for the big money 50/50 win.
